Article: The Betty Ferguson Foundation Receives Awards

On February 20, The Betty Ferguson Foundation was presented the Soroptimists’ Distinction Award for the Advancement of Women’s Status. The Foundation was also the recipient of some generous contributions. In January, 2002, they received word from the City of Santa Clarita that they were awarded a grant for $5,000 to fund their Youth With a Voice girl’s workshop, in September. On January 31, they received a donation from Amaryah Lanum, Manager of Corporate Contributions at Warner Bros. Studios for $2,000.

Last year The Betty Ferguson Foundation hosted three very successful events - their first Woman-of-Honor Dinner at The Bridgeport Community Clubhouse April 27; the Second-Annual Heart of Mes Amies Summer Luncheon July 15; and on September 22, a Youth With a Voice workshop for girls 12-17 years of age.

This year’s Foundation 2002 series of events starts with a wine tasting at the Aqua Dulce Vineyard, Vine 2 Wine, on Sunday, April 14. The event will feature not only samples of wine from the valley’s largest vineyard, but food and entertainment as well.

On June 2, the foundation will host its second Woman-of-Honor Dinner at the Hyatt Valencia. This year’s woman of honor will be Roberta Veloz, local philanthropist and owner of Aquafine. In late summer (date to be announced) it will hold its Third-Annual Heart of Mes Amies Summer Luncheon. Then on September 21, they will be presenting their City of Santa Clarita Grant-funded Youth With a Voice Workshop at the Hyatt Valencia, which is designed to help young girls develop their purpose in life.
