by
Therese Edwards
Devoted mother
and admired businesswoman, Marlee Lauffer’s accomplishments have been noted by
many. Most recently, the Betty Ferguson Foundation has named Lauffer their Woman
of Honor. The foundation will hold a dinner in Lauffer’s honor on August 9 at
the Valencia Hyatt. Previous women honored by the Betty Ferguson Foundation
include Cheri Fleming and Roberta Veloz. Marlee Lauffer’s Woman of Honor
dinner marks the third year this event has been presented to the community. The
dinner, which is open to the public, will give community members an opportunity
to show their support for this very dedicated and generous woman.
Director of corporate marketing and public relations at Newhall Land, Lauffer is
incredibly active in the Santa Clarita community. An integral member of the SCV
Chamber of Commerce, Lauffer also works with the City of Santa Clarita Cultural
Affairs Advisory Committee, the Assistance League of Santa Clarita, the Zonta
Club of Santa Clarita and the YMCA. On the Board of Directors for Henry Mayo
Newhall Memorial Hospital, Marlee is also heading up the new CalArts Connection,
which is designed to benefit programs at CalArts and to enrich the cultural life
of our Valley.
According to Judy Cox and Marjanne Priest, co-founders of the Betty Ferguson
Foundation, “Our relationship with Marlee has grown through the years with her
support of many of our events and also through her participation in our summer
luncheon last July, where she was our guest speaker.” The Betty Ferguson
founders went on to say that, “Marlee is a woman of extensive education with
an outstanding reputation for being an honest, forthright and sensitive woman.
She is genuine, generous, a genial host, a gem! Marlee has a heart for the
betterment of our community and is passionate and committed to the well-being
and growth of the Santa Clarita Valley.”
Lauffer is thrilled by the honor. She humbly states, “It’s so flattering to
follow in the footsteps of Cheri Fleming and Roberta Veloz, two women who have
shown so much compassion, generosity and leadership over the years. I am really
excited about the event. My parents and family will be there, too, which will
make it even more special.” Marlee went on to state, “I have been long
impressed with the work the Betty Ferguson Foundation does. This is truly an
honor to be associated with such a phenomenal organization.”
