Article: Roberta Veloz Named Woman-of-Honor

On Sunday, June 2, 2002, the Betty Ferguson Foundation will host their second-annual Woman-of-Honor Dinner at the Hyatt Valencia. This year’s honoree is local businesswoman and philanthropist Roberta Veloz.

Ms. Veloz is CEO of the Aquafine Corporation, and has dedicated her life to many organizations locally, including Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, SCV Child and Family Center, Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, Soroptimist International, and United Way, to name a few.

In 1998, Ms. Veloz was the SCV Woman of the Year. In 1999, College of the Canyons honored her with their Silver Spur Award, and in 2000, the State of California 36th District named her Woman of the Year.

The events for the evening will include dinner, an award presentation, entertainment and a silent auction.  The Betty Ferguson Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to train, develop and empower women and youth to be a vital force in society. The foundation operates at a high level of commitment through seminars, workshops, book clubs, educational scholarships and community service, and by participation in many local projects, including workshops presented in conjunction with COC’s New Horizons/CalWORKS Department, raising funds for local people in need and support of other local nonprofit organizations.

Sponsorships are available for this event. The Betty Ferguson Foundation intends to recognize the companies supporting the event. Sponsorships available include: Legacy Table - $5,000; Tribute Table - $1,500; Individual Seats - $100.
